Pharmacy eCare Plans Made Simple
Posted on Feb 21, 2024
One of the biggest hurdles pharmacies encounter with eCare plans is the amount of time it takes to populate them. This is largely due to the number of components that are required. To help, BestRx has added eCare plan templates that can be stored and used for common encounter types and services. These templates are included in our Standard and Premium tiers and prevent pharmacies from having to create each eCare plan from scratch.
Getting Started
Before they can begin, pharmacies must register with the CPESN Network. Once enrolled, they can create eCare plans in BestRx using the eCare Plan drop down menu and selecting option 2, eCare Templates. Here, pharmacies can view and select any existing templates that have been saved or create a new one using the radio button in the upper left.
Creating a New eCare Template
When a new template is initiated, the system will walk the pharmacy through each step, starting with naming the template and entering the encounter/service type and related details (the date of service, communication method used, etc.). Then, pharmacies are guided through the remaining required components, including:
- Health concerns and/or risk factors, such as medication adherence issues or adverse reactions.
- Health-related goals associated with the therapy/encounter.
- Interventions the pharmacy can take to help the patient achieve their goal(s).
Once the necessary information has been entered, the pharmacy simply needs to hit save to store the template for future use.
Using a Stored Template
Moving forward, whenever the pharmacy wants to create a new eCare plan, they can click on the “T” button to the right of the encounter/service field and select from a list of stored, prepopulated templates. Or, if an encounter/service type is manually keyed in, the system will automatically display any templates that match the criteria that has been entered.
When an existing template is used, the pharmacy just needs to add patient-specific information, like:
- The patient’s medical history, current medications, and lifestyle habits.
- The patient’s current health status, including observations of their functional, sensory, and mental status, their vitals, and other biometric tests.
- Notes monitoring the effectiveness of the treatment plan.
The Benefit
By streamlining the process, pharmacies can quickly develop eCare plans that help to maximize the effectiveness of a patient’s treatment plan by ensuring they understand how to take their medications and the goal of the therapy, and addressing any barriers that may impact the treatment’s success. Plus, by drastically reducing the amount of time it takes to create a new eCare plan, these templates will boost the pharmacy’s productivity as well.
