2024 Recap: Our Top 5 Pharmacy Software Enhancements
Posted on Dec 16, 2024
We’re constantly adding new functionality and integrations to enhance our pharmacy software. In fact, we typically roll out an update for BestRx and BestPOS once a month. However, during the daily hustle and bustle, you may find yourself quickly glancing at the update log and forgetting to go back and explore the new features more closely later. That’s why we send out monthly QuickBytes emails as well, to ensure your pharmacy stays informed as updates are made. Plus, we’ve compiled a list of the top 5 pharmacy software enhancements we made at the end of 2024, which are outlined below.
1. New Rx Location Management Options
This new feature was launched in August and can be accessed using the Workflow dropdown menu. It allows pharmacies to specify where a prescription is located within their store. The location can be somewhere physically in the pharmacy, like a refrigerator, a shelf, or in your alphabetized “Bag Area”. Or a location could be virtual and used to indicate various situations for the Rx. Examples include “waiting for order”, “patient needs to speak with the pharmacist”, or that a “new insurance card is needed.” Once a location has been added, it will be displayed next to the script on the Will-Call and Patient Profile screens. This new feature ensures that any staff member will be able to quickly locate a prescription when the patient arrives for pickup.
2. Delivery App Enhancements
In September, we added new functionality to the BestRx Delivery App, to make it easier for drivers to capture signer details. Now, drivers have the option to quickly scan the signer’s driver’s license (using the app), and the person’s information will automatically populate. This way, drivers won’t have to manually enter the information at each stop, saving them valuable time.
We’ve also recently added several new login options for drivers, including via PIN or using Face or Fingerprint ID technology.
3. Expanded Online Signature Capture Capabilities
Previously, online signatures for prescriptions and OTC orders could only be obtained through our point-of-sale system, BestPOS. However, in October we added this capability in BestRx as well. Now, pharmacies can request an online signature right from their Dispense/Delivery menu. After indicating the prescription’s status (picked up, delivered or shipped), the pharmacy just needs to select the ‘Request Online Signature’ option in the lower left corner. Then, they can decide how they want to send the electronic signature request – via email or text*. Once sent, the patient will receive the message, which contains a hyperlink to a secure online portal. After verifying their identity, they will be able to review their order and sign for their script(s). Then the signature seamlessly syncs back to BestRx, where it’s linked to the appropriate prescription(s). Not only is this convenient for patients, but it eliminates manual steps from the dispensing process as well.
*The BestRx Messaging Interface is required to use this feature.
4. New Patient Profile Images
The November update also included the ability to add an image to a Patient’s Profile. Each Patient Profile screen now has an image tile in the upper right corner. Pharmacies can click on the edit icon to quickly attach a photo of that patient, either by scanning, capturing, or importing an image. Once the image has been added, it can be cropped or adjusted to fit the image tile as well. This feature enables pharmacies to have an easy way to visually identify they’ve got the correct patient selected when working on an order.
5. Coming Soon: Track and Trace Integrations
BestRx has been working behind the scenes for months, perfecting two new integrations (with InfiniTrak and LSPedia) designed to help pharmacies stay compliant with the new DSCSA (track and trace) requirements. While certain parts of the legislation are not being enforced yet, pharmacies should be working towards full compliance now, to ensure their store is ready before the deadline next fall. Entering, reconciling, and storing unique product identifiers and other information that will be required moving forward would require a LOT of manual work. That’s why we’re excited to launch both integrated track and trace solutions before the end of the year, to automate the process for our customers.
